alabama string art

I'm back with another art project! I found the inspiration for this on pinterest, but it was a different state, so I decided to give it a go myself with Alabama. My own little pinterest challenge!

I started with this Blue Ocean Breeze Krylon spray paint. I had it leftover from the chevron lamp project. 

I had this piece of wood leftover from the bar project. I brought it out to the spray paint patch.

I sprayed it down with a couple of coats. 

I found this outline of the state on google and printed it out on a regular 8.5 x 11" piece of paper. 

I cut it out and placed it on the wood. I didn't think I was going to like the striations of the wood, but I actually liked the pattern once it was painted.

I lightly outlined the state with a pencil.

Then I hammered these nails along the outline. I chose gold, but any color can be used. I took this picture after I had used one box of nails. I bought 5 as a precaution... oops.

Here it is with the outline finished! 

On pinterest, there was a heart nailed around a city. Naturally, I chose Auburn. I also got some orange string.  I thought it looked good with the lighter blue.

I was going to attach a picture hanger on the back to put it on the tiny art wall, but I already had a small picture of Alabama hanging up there. I decided to move the bamboo and place it on the sideboard table in the dining room. I think it looks lovely! 

Full shot! Pay no attention to the Christmas gift, ornaments, and tray to the left. 

I can totally whip another one of these up if anyone is interested! I can do almost any color (thread and spray paint selection permitting), and whatever city and state!
