stream of consciousness

Hello everyone! Are you ready for some randomness?

I have been uber busy completing Christmas orders, but I have had a little time to squeeze in a bit o' fun. Last Saturday, the Dothan ladies who live in Birmingham had a brunch at Virginia's house. Y'all. I WILL be doing a house dive at V's house. It is totally my style and super cute/modern/awesome and everyone needs to see it! She even has the DIY bug, and has multiple projects she's completed. She also has several mid-century modern pieces, and you KNOW I can't get enough of those. I can't wait to show everyone!

From left to right: Katie, Jenny, me, Virginia, Caroline, Megan, Ragan, and Brittany. Class of 2003, y'all!

Not only did Virginia cook a delicious brunch, but she made us these ornaments as well! In case you didn't realize, Dothan is the peanut capital of the world (and naturally we have the annual Peanut Festival), so the ornaments were perfect for all of us. I love it!

My roomie Kate and I decorated the house for Christmas last week. I haven't taken pictures of everything yet, but I did get a shot of the nativity I set up today. I realized the white ceramic fish looks like he could be part of the set. I thought about switching him out for the time being, but instead I'm calling him franken-fish and pretending the wise men brought him.

I got this nativity from the thrift store right after Christmas last year for about $10. What a deal! It's white porcelain I do believe. I wouldn't mind painting them a different color at some point. Maybe gold? We'll see.

I gave Cotton and Diesel their flea/heartworm meds today, and they HATE taking it. Diesel held the pill in his mouth and proceeded to make this hilarious face. Luckily my camera was right on the edge of the table, so I was able to capture it. Too funny!

As I mentioned, I've been bunkered down working on Christmas orders so they'll arrive to people in time for the 25th! Here is one of my favorites:

It's Dothan with a light blue background and red string.

I did a bulk order for City Arts Boutique here in Birmingham for TEN string arts.

I also did a bulk order for Auburn Art a couple days ago. Here I am at the art show there back in November (just so you can picture where those string arts went).

Besides those big orders, I've been chugging away at Etsy orders. Whenever I make a new string art that I haven't done before, I take pictures with my nice camera. I haven't posted any lately since I've been doing several that I've already shown you (and how many times do you want to see the same Texas string art?).

Texas is by far the most ordered state from my Etsy shop, but I do have a couple of new states requested, so I'll be sure to show them to you once they're complete!

In addition to all these babies, I have several pet paintings to complete by Christmas. I finished one earlier today, and once it's delivered, I'll show it to you!

new business cards

As I've alluded to earlier, I got some new business cards printed up! I figured everyone needed to see, and on top of that, I'll show you how I package string art.

Well ok, how I now package string art with this new card.

Here's the front! Note the scallops. What do they remind you of? Fish scales? Yep, me too.

And the back! Yes, I kept the "drop me a line" line. It's a real crowd pleaser.

I also put this card in each one, and I sign it with a personalized message.

Gotta love color cohesiveness.

Mmmhmmm.

I tie up the string art with the baker's twine and stick the cards underneath before shipping them off into the great blue yonder.

Just a little glimpse into Herring Design Co, y'all!

possum blogs!

Hey guythz, ithz me, Possum! I'm takin over the blog on accounta my adventures the past few weeks. First, my mama went out of town, so my awesomely awesome auntie Rachel took care of me for a few dayz. I gotz to go to Birmingham!

I taught my cousins some bad tricks, like gettin on the couch.

Whut? I do it all the timez at home.

I gotz a little sad away from mah ma, but as soon as I got back to Auburn,

IT WAS MAH BIRFDAY!

TREATS! TREATS! TREATS! TREATS!

I gotz to wear a sombrero and everything! I also gotz all. the. treats. Everyone brought me a present. It was GREAT!

My cousins came to visit, but Diesel was a party pooper. Cotton put on sum bunny ears, but I really didn't care, so long as she didn't touch mah treats.

Mah ma likes to pick me up and swing me around. Good thing I could still hold onto mah treat.

BOOP!

Mah ma is crazy.

Helpz me, auntie Rachel!

hmph.

We tried to take a Payne St. Christmas card picture with me, mah ma, her roomies Tom and Caroline, and Caroline's baby, Shelley. She's a hermit crab.

Just like mah ma, I hatez takin Christmas cards, so of coursth I was being difficult. And Shelley pushed Tom over.

I would've cooperated for some treatz. Mmmmm, treatzzzzz...

Nom nom nom!

Do you think the madness stopped there? NO! Thanksgivingz was next!

Gimme dat turkey.

Delicious.

Whut do wez have here?

Look at dat turkey frying those turkeys.

Mah ma cut the delicious fried human treat.

Do you think she shared any wif me? No.

Rude.

My cousins came too, but they don't like to come inside.

I don't know why.. there are so many delicious smells!

Maybe it's because theys don't blend in as well as I do..

Anyone wanna drop a pup a treat?

I eventually got some asparaguz.

I played with mah grampz at night.

He's not so scary.

I've tried to tell that to Cotton, but she still won't get anywherez close to him. She's looking for him here..

I was pooped after all that, so I excused myselfz to gets in the bed.

The next day was more fun wif grampz!

I did not like dat gator hat.

I also didn't enjoyz mah mom not sharing wif me.

But she made up for it wif some snugglez!

I can'ts wait for the next adventure!

magic city post article!

Gosh, with the holiday, Iron Bowl game, then the Denver trip all at once, I didn't have time to share this glorious little tidbit!

Emily with Magic City Post came to interview me for an article for the site! Click here to read it!

A few months ago, I wrote about how the great Sherri Ross had written an article for Magic City Post about Artwalk and featured some of my work, so it was a real honor to meet and talk with the founder, Emily. She was like a giant bucket of Birmingham knowledge. We went to lunch and then she came to my house the next day to take some pictures while I worked on some pieces. There were so many things she told me about that are going on here in town! If you live in the area, you should definitely check out Magic City Post to find out the latest happenings in our community!

I was so excited that Emily asked to interview me! Thanks for spreading the word of buying local and handmade!

On that note..

Don't forget everyone, the 5th is the last day to order string arts/pet paintings to ensure they'll arrive in time for Christmas!

I would like to note if you live in Dothan or Birmingham, I may could stretch the deadline since we could meet up/not wait for shipping times.
