art on r mountain

Hola! I've recently mentioned the art show I'm going to be in that's coming up in a couple of weeks, so I decided it was high time to formally invite you fine people. It's Art on R Mountain here in Birmingham on Saturday, April 6th. Admission is FREE!

It's put on by East Lake Arts District at the Ruffner Mountain Nature Center. EEE! I'm super excited! I love doing outside art shows! I hope it warms up by then (what the f is up with this freezing weather?).  You can click here to visit their site for more info! I have not checked out the RMNC, but I just found this rave review on google:

"Very nice.. a place for u n your honey to go chill..."

So grab your honey and come chill with me, y'all!

On the Friday night before at 5:30, they're having "An Evening of Good Eaton" with food and a jazz concert if you'd like to come to that!

If you follow me on instagram (ilikewhatimherring) you've seen some of the goodies I've been whipping up! I sewanee, if this freezing weather doesn't get out of here, I'm just gonna have to sell pencil drawings on copy paper. I sawed outside yesterday (with 3 layers of clothes on, mind you) and my fingers and nose just about fell off. I need to invest in a ski mask. I also should probably prepare for art shows more than 2 weeks ahead of time..

Do you know what else is Saturday, April 6th?

Dave Matthews Band concert in Bham!

And who won free tickets? Oh, this girl. I've told yall a thousand times to go check out bhammountainradio.com to win concert tickets. You'll just have to beat me on the facebook comments to win! (they ask questions on fb and the first to answer wins tickets)

Would you like to know what all concerts I've gotten tickets to fo' free courtesy of BMR (and my speedy fingers)?!

My Morning Jacket
Fleet Foxes
The Civil Wars
Avett Brothers
and now DMB

EEEE! What a good weekend it's gonna be! I went to several dmb concerts in high school, and I can't wait to see 'em again!

The question I answered was what DMB song did the station just play. Here it is for your listening pleasure.

stream of consciousness

I haven't done one of these posts in a while! To recall, it's just random stuff that's going on around these parts.

First (and maybe most important)

IT'S CADBURY EGG SEASON!

I think I've announced this every year.. they are my FAVORITE sweet treat. My lovely roomie brought me this one home the other night. I just found out CVS has a bogo deal on these babies so I'll be stocking up for the summer. You know they only come around during certain times of the year.. le sigh. And genius. Well played, Cadbury. You know if they're going to be around only a couple of months, I'm likely to buy 24 instead of just 1.

:::::::

I haven't shown these cutie patooties lately! I love when they turn their heads in opposite directions.

:::::::

It's been glorious outside lately. I cut and stained a ton of boards the other day! I felt quite productive.

This is what happens when you stain for hours. Yummy.

Note to self: stop biting your fingernails.

:::::::

You know what I haven't had in AGES?!? A hot Krispy Kreme doughnut. You haven't lived until you've had one fresh off the production line. I was headed to Auburn (which doesn't have a KK, btw) and I grabbed them on my way out of Birmingham.

Do you know how hard it is to ride with a dozen delicious smelling doughnuts sitting right next to you in the car?

I couldn't even make it out of the parking lot before I devoured a hot glazed. I got half way to Auburn and had to down a chocolate one. Aren't you amazed at my willpower? I wanted to eat them alllllll.

I ate lunch with my dad in Opelika last Friday. I always meet him at the shop and we take one of the old cars out to lunch. He builds them himself! It really puts my DIY projects to shame.

This one is a 32 coup.

He takes care of them like a child. He actually did this to me when I was little... took me outside and hosed me off when I was a baby. I suppose he didn't know how to handle diaper changing. HA!

Of course I had to throw in a black and white shot..

Murray, some friends, and I went to the Auburn/Vanderbilt baseball game, and then went downtown afterwards. It was St. Patrick's Day weekend, so there was lots of celebrating. I had my first Irish Car Bomb.

In case you're unaware, it's a Bailey's Irish cream shot with a Jameson whiskey shot dropped into a glass of Guinness.

I'm pretty much half Irish now. It wasn't that bad, but I can't drink it fast like the boys did.

When I returned home, roomie Katie suggested that we continue celebrating (since it was actually St. Patrick's Day), so we got some champagne and colored it green. HA!

:::::::

I have been making something new with my new big ol' saw!

It involves these lovely cedar planks that I've been storing in my carport. Ooooo don't you just love the striations?

Here's a sneak peek:

The past couple of days I've used just about every power tool I own. You can't really tell below, but there are three lined up there. The circular saw and miter saw were out there as well.

I feel like Tim the Tool Man Taylor, and I want to do that RAARRR RAAARR RAARRR noise he makes whenever I'm working.

I can't wait to show you what I'm making!! EEEE!

football ticket invitations

I'm back with some more invitations from last year that never got any air time on the bloggie. They're football ticket themed invites!

The first is for a "stock the tailgate" engagement party. The couple is getting married 04-13-13, so that's the numbers we used for the section, row, and seat numbers. I looked at several Auburn ticket layouts, so this is pretty close the way they look (except for the fact that they don't have a hologram on them).

They chose the one above, but naturally I sent a secondary one for them to view. This one isn't based on an actual ticket, just some examples they sent in. Somehow I got terribly confused on the section, row, and seat numbers on this one, but I never updated it since they went with the one above. Oopsie.

After the invitations went out, I was contacted by someone who had seen them to do one for a Georgia fan's birthday party! This time the section, row, and seat numbers were the guest of honor's birthday digits.

I just updated my website with these, and if you're interested in something similar, just let me know! I can do any team you'd like!

80's party!

Remember the 80s party invite from last week?

Well it all went down this past weekend! In case you didn't know..

 I LOVE THEME PARTIES!

My roomie Katie and I were twins. I have an awesome 80's prom outfit, but since this was 80's workout, we both had to go get outfits. Why wouldn't we match?!

Here's the bride-to-be, Laurie.

The happy couple!

Kate and Gray were there! Kate is a loyal bloggie reader, which of course made me RUHL excited!

There were lots of fun 80's props, like slinkies and pixie sticks..

And most fun of all, POP ROCKS!

No 80's workout party would be complete without a little Richard Simmons playing in the background.

I'm pretty sure I overdosed on candy.

The Pop Rocks sealed my sugar hangover fate.

Dothan ladies! Jensen, Abby, Katie, and Laurie.

John was rocking his leggings.

Of course there was a dance party.

A bit of Thriller.

Then awards for the best dressed.

Abby had these awesome Dothan magnets, so of course I had to share.

This one's my favorite. It's from the Dothan airport (did you know there was such a thing?!). If anyone goes through there anytime soon, I would generously pay you to pick one up for me!

We couldn't stop after the shower, now could we? We headed to the closest karaoke bar.

Katie made off with a couple of party favors..

We sang my new favorite "Bills, Bills, Bills".

Complete with dance moves.

I can't wait for the wedding weekend!

montana flag string art

Remember the Maryland state flag string art from last month? Well I listed it on Etsy, and I just completed a new order!

Montana!

Their flag not only has a word on it, it has a landscape scene. Let's just say when I listed this, I was crossing my fingers for states like Alabama that are just a big X.. but that doesn't mean I wasn't up to the challenge.

Obviously, I paint the flag first. I like how colorful theirs is!

Then I put the string art on top!

toomer's tree string art

I don't know why I didn't think of doing this before, ya know being the biggest AU fan on the planet and all, but it's finally complete! A Toomer's Corner tree string art!

I can't take the credit for thinking of it. AuburnArt asked me to make some for them to sell on A Day. I immediately smacked my head and said "why didn't I think of that?!". If you follow along on the Herring Design Co. facebook page, you've already seen this new little nugget. I usually post new stuff as soon as I finish it on Instagram (ilikewhatimherring if you want to look me up) and share it on the fb page from there, so follow along if you want to see the latest projects!

I love how it turned out! And you guys did too. I don't think I've seen that much action on a post ever!

The good news is that if you're not an Auburn fan, it can be just a plain ol' tree string art! HA!

This one is 12"x12" in size, but I will be making some big ones as well, probably 36"x36".

If you'd like to order one of these, CLICK HERE to head to the Etsy listing

UPDATE: If you'd like to customize the string art, I can do that for you! Some people have asked for a word painted beneath the tree or different color string. Just let me know!
